Receive Text UpdatesI started getting healthy so I could do all the things that would be necessary during her cancer battle: be her caregiver, parent our 4 kids, cook/clean/work, and be mentally/emotionally/physically at my best. The pace was insane. During her 10 month fight I lost ≈40lbs & added ≈10lb of muscle, but that was just survival. Now that she’s gone, my motivation is to stay healthy for my kids, and to live a life that honors her memory and her courage. I can't change what happened, but I changed me.
What’s your favorite way to train or stay fit?As a 54yo solo parent of 4 traumatized people, I’m more interested in whole-life health than “getting ripped.” I work out 6 days/wk (consistency helps my mood/stress, as I’m still grieving), doing a combo of weights, functional (pull-ups/pushups/bands/etc), stretching & VO2 cardio (usually boxing or rowing). All in my basement, because I have limited time/budget. I eat Keto, but I’m not legalistic w/ it. I also do lots of walking and meditation/spiritual work, and I’m in therapy. Whole health.
What would you do with $20,000?Honestly, I’d take my kids on the vacation of a lifetime. They’ve suffered so much. No child should lose their mother. And no child should be parented by a disorganized, ADD, blubbering mess like me. They deserve to be honored and blessed. They deserve a bunch of new memories and big smiles. As a family, we need to have an adventure that proves that our new, mom-less family can have fun, find joy and thrive.
